Eric Klotzko (Piano / Organ)
Eric Klotzko is a multi-instrumentalist, musical storyteller, and sonic explorer whose journey through sound began in the brass section and evolved into a genre-defying love affair with keys, strings, and soul. Based along a riverbank where nature often harmonizes with melody, Eric brings a deep well of musical experience, an eclectic mix of influences, and an unshakable reverence for the power of live performance to every project he touches.
Eric’s story starts in the school music room, where the young musician first picked up the trombone and bass trombone. Performing in both a concert band and a traveling jazz ensemble, Eric quickly learned the language of collaboration, improvisation, and discipline. He cut his teeth not just on sheet music but on the living energy of performance—a spark that never left him.
While brass instruments were his gateway, it wasn’t long before Eric felt the tug of strings. On the eve of heading off to college, he bought his first acoustic guitar. What followed was nearly a quarter-century of exploring the heart of folk music. Acoustic sessions around campfires, quiet mornings strumming by the river, and countless intimate performances formed the bedrock of Eric’s musical soul. With guitar in hand, he cultivated his voice as a songwriter and rhythm-maker, grounded in tradition yet always curious.
But a new chapter was waiting in the wings.
Around fifteen years ago, Eric ventured into the world of keys. A keyboard found its way into his home, and with that began a self-guided odyssey into piano and organ. With no formal training, Eric turned to what he fondly calls “YouTube University,” piecing together tutorials, lessons, and inspiration into a patchwork education that was anything but ordinary. What emerged from that unorthodox schooling was a style all his own—honest, expressive, and deeply felt.
The real turning point came in December of 2016, when Eric rescued a vintage 1962 Hammond B3 organ and Leslie 122 speaker from a Nashville studio. That organ had seen its share of legends, having graced recordings by the likes of Emmylou Harris and John Scofield. For Eric, it wasn’t just an instrument—it was a living relic, dripping with history and soul. From that moment on, he was hooked. “Pouring organ gravy on just about anything” became more than a motto—it was a mission.
Eric’s sound is as rich and diverse as his influences. He draws from the sprawling improvisations and emotional depth of the Grateful Dead, the lyrical beauty and harmonic sophistication of Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett, the storytelling brilliance of Counting Crows, and the infectious melodies of Billy Joel and Elton John. His playing reflects a blend of spontaneity and intention, joy and melancholy—a musical palette that defies easy categorization but feels instantly familiar.
Over the years, Eric has shared his talents in a wide range of settings. He’s brought gospel warmth to church choirs, supported young voices as a school chorus accompanist, and held down the groove in countless local jam bands and jazz combos. Whether it’s a spirited Dead cover in a smoky bar, a jazz standard at a dinner reception, or a soulful ballad in a quiet sanctuary, Eric approaches each performance with the same goal: to connect, to elevate, and to listen.
Today, Eric is actively involved in multiple musical projects, with a special focus on rootsy, improvisational, and emotionally resonant styles. Whether it's reinterpreting classic Dead tunes with new life, crafting lush textures behind a jazz vocalist, or jamming with a crew of like-minded musicians under the stars, Eric remains a passionate student of music—and a generous contributor to his musical communities.
In every project, the spirit of the Hammond B3 is never far behind. It growls, sings, whispers, and roars, channeling decades of tradition through Eric’s fingertips. It’s a sound that lifts and anchors, supports and surprises. For those who share his stage—or his audience—Eric Klotzko offers more than just music. He offers presence. He offers his heart. And perhaps most of all, he offers the reminder that it’s never too late to learn, to grow, and to find joy in the journey.
